Shots fired early Sunday morning sent Niagara Regional Police to Fort Erie’s south end, and by evening officers had tracked down the suspect vehicle and arrested a local man on three firearms charges.

Police responded at approximately 2:25 a.m. on May 17 to the area of Niagara Boulevard and John Street where officers found a recently-fired bullet casing. Two adult males had been involved in an altercation before both fled the scene in a vehicle ahead of police arrival. No injuries were reported.
A 28-year-old Fort Erie man was arrested around 7:45 p.m. after officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, roughly 17 hours after the incident.
The suspect is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm while reckless as to the life or safety of others, and possessing a restricted firearm while knowingly not holding a licence.
He remains in custody and was scheduled for a bail hearing Monday at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse at 59 Church Street in St. Catharines.
The 5 District Criminal Investigative Branch has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information can contact Niagara Regional Police at (905) 688-4111.
