Fort Erie resident charged after vehicle found in ditch near Tavistock

A Fort Erie resident is facing an impaired driving charge after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch in Oxford County earlier this week.

According to an OPP news release, officers from the Oxford detachment were called around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday to 16th Line in East Zorra-Tavistock after a tow truck operator reported pulling a vehicle from the ditch.

Police located the vehicle and began an impaired driving investigation.

The OPP says a 36-year-old man from Fort Erie has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood-alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams. The driver received a 90-day administrative licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Woodstock on January 20, 2026, according to the release.

Police are reminding the public to call 911 to report suspected impaired driving in emergency situations.

Concerns about impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be reported to the OPP’s non-emergency line at (888) 310-1122.
