Fort Erie museums open daily May 16 with passport program

Your “maybe next weekend” excuse expires on May 16, because Fort Erie’s museums will also be open weekdays for a regionwide passport program.

The Fort Erie Historical Museum on Ridge Road and the Fort Erie Railway Museum on Central Avenue will reopen for the season on May 16 with daily hours as a part of Ontario’s annual Museum Month. The Museums of Niagara Association passport program runs through May and records visits across participating museums, galleries and archives.

The Fort Erie Historical Museum at 402 Ridge Road North currently operates Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through early May. It will open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week starting May 16, according to the town.

The Fort Erie Railway Museum at 400 Central Avenue remains closed through early May, with outdoor displays accessible year-round. It will reopen for the season on May 16 and operate daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Niagara Railway Museum at 21 Warren Street, a volunteer-run non-profit organization, will open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting May 9.

The passport program runs through May across the Niagara region, including sites in Welland, Port Colborne, St. Catharines, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls and Lincoln.

Visitors receive a stamp at each participating location. Collecting five stamps by June 1 let’s visitors enter into a draw to win a prize.
