Free Fort Erie flags ready to be picked up in Crystal Beach

The project started in March after Turner set out to distribute 100 municipal flags to residents after public debate over how possible amalgamation and other regional governance changes may threaten Fort Erie’s existence.

“A lot of people are anxious about what these talks look like, with people fearing that they’re going to lose their community spirit,” said Turner.

At the time, he estimated the order would cost about $2,000, with printing and shipping at just under $20 per flag.

Turner previously told Fort Erie Radio the project has no municipal funding behind it and is meant as a public display of town pride as Niagara’s political structure faces renewed scrutiny.

“Whether or not the province amalgamates Fort Erie, I thought it’d be really cool for us to be able to show our town spirit,” Turner said.

The flags are made for outdoor display and Turner suggested they be flown at homes, cottages or businesses. He also repeated that an optional $20 contribution per flag would help cover his costs. Any money collected above his production costs would go to a local charity.

People who already requested a flag can now reply directly to Turner by email to arrange pickup or delivery. He told supporters other times may also be available if Thursday or Friday after 5 p.m. does not work.
