Roadwork and lane closures expected to slow Fort Erie commuters

Ontario 511 is warning Fort Erie drivers to expect overnight delays on several key highways in Niagara this week as crews carry out construction and engineering work.

On the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), the Fort Erie‑bound off‑ramp to McLeod Road in Niagara Falls is scheduled to close nightly at 11 p.m. from Tuesday until 5 a.m. on October 1. On‑ramps at Highway 420 in both directions will also be closed from 11 p.m. Tuesday through early September 29.

Further along the QEW, a right lane between Mountain Road and Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls will be shut each night between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Monday through Thursday.

In St. Catharines and Lincoln, two Toronto‑bound lanes are to close nightly between Seventh Street and Victoria Avenue, starting at 7 p.m. on Monday and ending at 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Ontario 511 says drivers heading toward Fort Erie should also watch for lane reductions between Jordan Road and Seventh Street during the same time frame.

Construction on Highway 405 in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake is continuing between the QEW and Stanley Avenue. One lane in each direction is closed as crews work along the approach to the Queenston‑Lewiston Bridge and that work is expected to continue through October 21.

South of Thorold, engineering and construction work on Highway 58 will close alternating lanes on the southbound side between Highway 406 and Thorold Stone Road/Davis Road. The nightly closures run from 10 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Friday.

In Port Colborne, commuters will face lane reductions on Highway 3. Westbound lanes between Sherkston Road West/Neff Road and Killaly Street East/Niagara Road 5 are to be reduced to a single lane from 10 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.

Eastbound maintenance is scheduled between Killaly Street East and Sherkston Road West on the same night, beginning at 8 p.m. and ending at 9 a.m. the next morning.
