The federal government has reappointed two Canadian members to the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, the binational organization that oversees the Peace Bridge.
Minister of Transport and Internal Trade Anita Anand announced on Friday that Margaret Neubauer and Debbie Zimmerman will continue to serve on the authority’s board for another four-year term.
The Peace Bridge connects Fort Erie to Buffalo, N.Y., and is jointly governed by a 10-member board, with five representatives from Canada and five from New York State.
Neubauer and Zimmerman have served on the board since 2019 and will continue in their roles as part of the latest round of appointments in Canada’s transportation sector. The government said in a news release that the appointees bring a wide range of expertise and experience to their positions.
“The Government of Canada is committed to open, transparent and merit-based processes for selecting appointees,” Anand said in the release.
“I wish these highly qualified individuals every success in their roles,” she added.
The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority is responsible for maintaining and operating the Peace Bridge, a key trade and travel corridor between Canada and the United States.
The reappointments were part of a broader announcement that included appointments to the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority, Ship-Source Oil Pollution Fund, and several Canadian port authorities.
