‘Truck or Treat’ returns to Jarvis on October 26

A Halloween celebration planned for downtown Fort Erie won’t simply be businesses handing out candy.

That will be part of it, but it will also be a “truck or treat” event, with equipment brought in by Peters Construction for kids to sit in and learn about.

It will take place on Jarvis Street on Saturday, October 26 from noon to 3 p.m., hosted by the Bridgeburg BIA.

Korinne Antaya, owner of The Fox Shop, said discussions with another construction company are being had about taking part as well.

“The closer we get, more people are reaching out,” said Antaya, a BIA board member, on Wednesday.

She said the construction-themed party was a big hit in 2023.

“Everyone went bananas for it last year. The kids really loved it,” she said.

Businesses who are participating, such as by handing out candy, will have a “pumpkin cutout” in their window to show they are participating.

Even though Antaya opened her home décor business in June, she said many longstanding businesses in the area are proud to show off the progress made in the historic downtown district.

“It’s been challenging” for many businesses, said Antaya, especially as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, but the event is also an opportunity for residents to “see all the changes” that have taken place recently.

The late-October event will also feature bouncy castles, a costume contest, and arts and crafts for kids.
