Town seeks input on its draft Community Improvement Plan

Fort Erie residents and business owners will get a chance next week to weigh in on the town’s draft Community Improvement Plan.

The Town of Fort Erie is holding a public open house Wednesday, May 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at town hall, 1 Municipal Centre Drive.

According to the town, the open house will give residents, business owners and other interested parties a chance to review the proposed framework and provide comments before it is considered by council.

The town says it is reviewing and updating its Community Improvement Plans under Section 28 of the Planning Act.

The goal is to consolidate the town’s existing Community Improvement Plans into one comprehensive document to make local community improvement programs and policies clearer, easier to administer and more accessible.

According to the town’s Let’s Talk website, the review will also consider updates to Community Improvement Project Areas, including the incorporation of Crystal Beach.

The town says the review may also update existing financial incentive programs and introduce new programs to support revitalization, redevelopment, economic development and investment opportunities across Greater Fort Erie.

Affordable housing incentive programs are not included in the draft consolidated plan. The town says its Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan remains in effect as a separate standalone program.

The May 20 open house will begin with an introductory presentation, followed by a drop-in-style session where people can discuss the draft plan, proposed incentive programs and project area updates with town staff.

Written comments or questions can also be submitted to Kimberlyn Smith, junior community planner, at (905) 871-1600 or ksmith@forterie.ca.
