Station 5 in Stevensville to mark 100 years with community open house

The Stevensville Firefighters Association is inviting residents to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its local volunteer fire hall with an open house and barbecue September 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visitors will be able to take in a “touch a truck” experience, a tour of the hall, and view photos showing how the department has served the community since 1925.

Admission is free and all ages are welcome, and local dignitaries including Mayor Wayne Redekop are expected to be in attendance.

“It’s important to recognize 100 years of service in the community,” said Jeff Brunning, district chief of the Stevensville fire department.

“We want to have the open house so people can come out and see what we have, what we’ve done and what we can do.”

The Stevensville fire department began in 1925 when the owners of the Stevensville Planing Mill formed the company to protect the small village. It has since become part of Fort Erie Fire and Emergency Services.

Brunning said the day will be a chance for both longtime and new residents to meet firefighters past and present.

“Come out and meet the members, see the equipment and enjoy a free, fun day,” he said.

The Station 5 fire hall is located at 2654 Stevensville Road.

Residents can learn more about the department’s history during the event.
