Shafoli Kapur to represent Liberals locally in provincial election

All three major parties now have candidates hitting the campaign trail in the Niagara Falls riding headed into this month’s provincial election.

New Democrat and incumbent Wayne Gates was the first to announce his re-election bid, while Ruth Ann Nieuwesteeg was named the candidate for the Ontario Progressive Conservatives late last month.

Over the weekend, the Liberal Niagara Falls riding association issued a news release to introduce Shafoli Kapur as the candidate for the riding, which covers Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Kapur’s journey is “rooted in her strong educational foundation and a relentless drive to make a positive impact on the lives of others,” says the news release.

After completing her degree in electrical engineering, she embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and, over the past 12 years, has built a business from the ground up, TDOT Immigration Services in North York.

As a business owner, she “demonstrated exceptional leadership in growing her company, which became a model of inclusivity and empowerment,” reads her news release.

Kapur believes in creating spaces where everyone can succeed–regardless of their gender, race, or background–and she has made it her mission to champion these values, continues the news release.

In addition to her business background, Kapur is an “advocate for women’s rights, mental health awareness, and social justice.”

Kapur is committed to addressing the stigma surrounding mental health issues, says her news release, and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their circumstances, have access to the support and services they need.

Beyond her advocacy work, Kapur says she recognizes the vital role that small businesses play in local economies, and that she has dedicated herself to fostering an environment where entrepreneurs can flourish, create jobs, and contribute to the prosperity of their communities.

As MPP, Kapur said she would be “committed to making sure that Niagara Falls, Fort Erie and Niagara-on-the-Lake remains a place where residents have access to high-quality healthcare, affordable housing, and economic opportunities.”

Kapur does not reside in her riding.
