A number of local organizations are coming together for an event next month to help people in the community heal.
‘We Have to Talk,’ hosted by the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre next month, will be a chance to delve into suicide awareness and prevention.
“Many of our residents share a common thread; unresolved anxiety, trauma which can lead to addictions, mental health and the tragedy of suicide,” said Theresa Murphy from Strong Fort Erie Neighbourhoods (SFEN), one of the several groups who will take part and also participated in a planning session on Thursday.
“It is a topic that unites the community,” said Murphy, adding it “pulls us together for a need to respond.”
SFEN, Bridges Community Health Centre, Community Outreach Program Erie, and the Fort Erie Multicultural Centre are some of the organizations who will be putting the event together, which will take place September 20 at 11 a.m.
These services will be working together to “build a healthier, resilient, and healing place to live,” said Murphy, noting that the event will be free to attend and open to all.
