Public tennis courts on Central Avenue open for the summer

The Town of Fort Erie opened its public tennis courts at 353 Central Avenue on June 15, and players of all ages can now use them for all their sporting needs.

The town runs programs for children, teens, adults and seniors at the courts. A six-week youth program costs $120. A six-week adult program costs $150. The sessions run until July 28.

Anyone can play during open-access hours at no charge, with Sundays open for unscheduled public use all day. From Monday to Saturday, members get the courts from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., then they open to the public until 5 p.m.

A membership lets players book a court during peak hours. An adult membership costs $100 plus tax. A junior membership costs $50 plus tax.

Each member gets a key fob to enter the courts, and the town asks for a $50 deposit that it returns at the end of the season.

Children under 14 must have an adult with them. Players must wear proper tennis shoes and bring their own racquets and balls.

The town also rents courts to the public for private bookings available through the town’s website. Tennis instructors can also rent a court for $20 to teach lessons.
