Power cut to 2,200 customers for Thunder Bay gas line repair

Canadian Niagara Power (CNP) cut electricity to roughly 2,200 customers across Ridgeway and Crystal Beach Thursday morning, and the utility does not expect to fully restore service until early afternoon.
CNP confirmed the disconnection in a social media post at 10:42 a.m., cutting power so crews could safely fix an Enbridge gas line within the Thunder Bay Road construction zone.
The $4.7-million rebuild between Burleigh Road South and Prospect Point Road South has closed the road since April and is expected to continue through September.
Enbridge advised the utility that the repair would take about three hours, the company said in an update posted at 11:44 a.m.
CNP coordinated the cut with authorities and is warning residents to stay clear of equipment and workers.
According to Cogeco at 10:44 a.m., telecommunication services are being impacted by the outage.
“There’s currently a power outage in your area, so you might notice some issues with your services,” reads a message on Cogeco’s reported outages website. “We checked in with your local hydro provider and they are working hard to restore services. Thanks for your patience.”
The utility posted estimated restoration times to its online outage map and said further updates will follow.
