Police arrest Fort Erie driver following accident east of Sudbury

A car in the ditch has resulted in criminal charges for a Fort Erie man.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Nipissing West Detachment responded to a call just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, regarding a vehicle in the ditch.

No injuries were reported.

After an investigation into the incident, which happened on Highway 17 48 kilometers east of Sudbury in Markstay-Warren, police arrested the driver.

A 52-year-old man who was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams and operating a vehicle while impaired due to alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released and is due to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury next month.

The driver was also issued a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for a week.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
