New Ridgeway Dollarama to open ‘imminently,’ company says

Dollarama says its new store at Ridgeway Centre will open “imminently,” but the company will not confirm a date.

“We don’t confirm opening dates as these can shift until the very last minute but the store is expected to open imminently,” said Lyla Radmanovich, who handles media relations for the Montreal-based retailer, to Fort Erie Radio.

Radmanovich would not confirm any of the dates circulating on local social media groups, which speculated an early-September opening.

The store is part of the second phase of the Ridgeway Centre, the commercial plaza at Gorham and Dominion roads where a McDonald’s and an LCBO opened in the first phase. Construction began last fall.

Anthony Annunziata, majority owner of the plaza with business partner David Kompson, told Fort Erie Radio last October that Dollarama was expected to open in spring 2026.

Radmanovich would not release information specific to the Ridgeway store, but she did say a typical Dollarama store is about 10,000 square feet and employs an average of about 16 people.

Dollarama’s other Fort Erie store is at 450 Garrison Road.

The developers first envisioned the plaza more than 15 years ago. Annunziata said they designed it to bring national chains to Ridgeway without competing with the boutiques in the village’s heritage downtown.

A supermarket remains part of the plan for the site. Annunziata said the grocery tenant wants an entrance from Gorham Road into the middle of the plaza, and the Niagara EMS station beside the property blocks that access.

“Nobody wants to lose the EMS and no one wants to relocate the EMS,” Annunziata said last October. “We’re trying to do our best to work around that and seek everybody’s cooperation.”
