Meteors score three in third period to win game one of quarterfinals

The Cambridge Redhawks scored first in game one of the eastern conference quarterfinals against the Fort Erie Meteors on Saturday night at the Leisureplex but the home team ended up with the win.

Cameron Thorpe scored the equalizer with less than five minutes to go in the first period, which ended 1-1.

Cambridge scored three goals in the second period and the Meteors netted one from Sam Tonelli, making it 4-2 going into the final frame.

But the Meteors poured on the offence in the third period and scored three to take the first game by a score of 5-4.

Scoring in the third were Jack Ryan, Hunter Coley, and Tonelli with his second of the game.

Shots on goal all game were an even 35-35.

Game two of the best-of-seven series is Tuesday in Cambridge and the third game is back on home ice Saturday at the Leisureplex for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
