Mayor seeks help finding town hall vandals

Some recent vandalism around town hall has Fort Erie’s mayor asking the public for help and urging the perpetrators to stop.

Wayne Redekop brought up the issue at the September 22 council meeting. He said there’s recently been some vandalism and trees destroyed in the area.

“Over near the worker’s memorial, which is particularly disturbing,” he said.

Redekop said the early investigation suggests it’s likely younger people. If any parents or members of the public have information he encouraged them to reach out to the town or Niagara Regional Police (NRP).

Town staff have been in contact with both the police and the school boards about the incidents, he said.

“I don’t understand, I never did understand, vandalism,” Redekop went on to say.

Whether it’s town hall or any other part of the municipality, the mayor said vandalism is not welcome in Fort Erie.

“There’s just no place for that in our community.”

The non-emergency number for the NRP detachment that looks after Fort Erie is (905) 871-2300. The number for town hall is (905) 871-1600.
