Lewis eyes four-way stop for Point Abino-Michener intersection

A Fort Erie councillor who was among several motorists to have nearly experienced a collision at the Point Abino Road South-Michener Road intersection will be seeking improved safety measures for the area.
Ward 5 Councillor Tom Lewis brought up the issue at the June 22 council meeting, saying a recent rejigging of Sherkston Road has, in his opinion, necessitated a four-way stop for the nearby intersection. He said he’ll be bringing up the issue at the next infrastructure services meeting, and could be bringing it to the town’s traffic coordinating committee for their review.
A combination of concerns he’s received from residents alongside his own recent near miss convinced him of the need.
“I myself have had an experience recently where I was almost involved in a motor vehicle collision at that location, as well I know there have been some others who have come to me with concerns,” Lewis said.
The traffic coordinating committee has previously looked at the intersection, but at the time concluded the existing two-way stop was sufficient. However, with the continuation of Sherkston Road and “rejigging of that traffic area” Lewis said it might be time for the town to take another look.
“I do think that needs to be revisited,” he said.

I’ve never understood why this wasn’t an all way stop. This should be an easy proposal to move.
It should be, I grew up in that area and it has always been an issue but worse now that Sherkston and Point Abino is closed.
