JANUARY 2, 2025 @ 1:34 P.M. | ORIGINAL STORY | FORT ERIE, ON — An injured bald eagle discovered by a local resident on their property is recovering thanks to a number of parties involved in its rescue.
On New Year’s Day, the Humane Society of Greater Niagara was called to a home in Fort Erie after receiving a call that the large bird had been on the property for several hours without leaving.
In a social media post, the humane society said one of its staff, Officer Chorney, safely captured the eagle and assessed it on site, discovering an injury to its right wing.

The Owl Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing care for injured owls and eagles, was contacted.
The eagle was transported to their facility where it is now receiving specialized care and treatment, said the humane society’s social media post.
“While at The Owl Foundation, Officer Chorney had the opportunity to assist with the eagle’s intake and assessment, gaining valuable insight into the incredible work their team does to care for birds of prey,” said the humane society on Facebook, also extending a “heartfelt thank you” to The Owl Foundation for their continued support and dedication to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
“Let’s wish this majestic bald eagle a speedy recovery,” said the humane society.
