This year there were eight submissions and two winners were selected.

The scholarship, funded by the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) and the Public Board Council of OSTA-AECO, is awarded to “recognize a student trustee’s exceptional leadership initiative and its positive impact on students within their school board.”

Her initiative, which involved extensive research and student-led advocacy, focused on enhancing school food services.

Marcel’s efforts led to the introduction of a more diverse and nutritious menu, promoting better health and concentration among and benefiting the entire student body of approximately 37,500 students.

Additionally, her initiative resulted in an expansion of the culinary program at one of DSBN’s secondary schools.

The scholarship’s financial reward will support Marcel’s future education at the University of Toronto, where she plans to study in the Rotman Commerce program, specializing in finance and economics with a minor in artificial intelligence.

She also plans to start a tutoring service and website that recruits University of Toronto students to support younger learners.
