Co-coach Nadine Coffey said the GFESS team had six routines prepared to compete against 21 other schools and results included:

  • Kendall Leggett’s self-choreographed acrobatic solo winning second place in her category and second highest scoring novice solo.
  • Halle Brewster’s highland solo placed first in her category.
  • The hip-hop trio choreographed by Karley MacNeil won second place.
  • The tap small group choreographed by Lauren Hill was awarded second place.
  • The contemporary small group choreographed by Marlee Russell and Abby Campbell won third place.
  • The jazz line choreographed by Coffey herself won first place in their category and second highest scoring line of the competition.

Along with co-coach Jennifer Smalldon, Coffey said the students “make it happen.”

She said a personal highlight for her was standing backstage and watching them perform.

“It’s the culmination in all the hours of hard work and rehearsal coming to life,” she said. “It all paid off.”

The GFESS dance team will next be performing in a Dance Canada competition at the Americana Conference Resort and Spa (8444 Lundy’s Ln.) in Niagara Falls on Monday, May 6.

Coffey is hopeful that “we have some personal bests on Monday.”

She said she would be there “so pumped and so proud.”
