Garrison Little Theatre casting actors for production of Norm Foster’s ‘Hilda’s Yard’

Garrison Little Theatre (GLT) is putting out a casting call for its next production, a comedy that will require six stars of the show.

The local theatre company will perform ‘Hilda’s Yard,’ a story written by Canadian playwright Norm Foster set to take the stage in May.

GLT was established in 1986 and spent a great deal of its existence performing from the Italo Canadian Club on Dipietro Street until it closed in 2023.

Since then, the Crystal Ridge Community Centre has been the home stage for GLT, which is where auditions will take place for the next play on January 30.

Spokesperson Zdenka Cole said rehearsals run for six to eight weeks, three times a week, once a cast is finalized.

She said director Brenda Bennett is seeking a couple to play the parents in the story, as well as two kids who ideally will be about 20 years younger than the parents.

There are roles for a “girlfriend” and “friend,” she told Fort Erie Radio.

The auditions are open to anybody, and it’s possible that some of the active 25 members of GLT may come forward, but the the theatre group is always looking for fresh faces.

“We’re getting a little long in the tooth, so we’re always welcoming younger people,” she said.

She said GLT has a great relationship with the Ridgeway Lions Club, who manages the community centre.

Auditions on January 30 will take place at 7 p.m. and people are free to attend without registering.
