Fred Davies unseats Badawey in Niagara South riding

Fort Erie’s representative in Ottawa will be Conservative Fred Davies.

He was victorious in the Niagara South riding, picking up one of 144 seats across the country for the Conservatives in Monday’s federal election.

Mark Carney was elected prime minister with a Liberal minority government with 168 seats.

Davies, a businessman from Port Colborne, pulled in 48.3 per cent of the vote in Niagara South, a reconfigured riding that replaced the Niagara Centre riding.

He will represent Fort Erie, Welland, Port Colborne, and Thorold as member of parliament.

Davies unseated Liberal incumbent Vance Badawey, who was MP for Niagara Centre since 2015. He received 43.4 per cent of the vote.

There were four other candidates in Niagara South, including Chantal McCollum for the NDP, Peter Taras fort the People’s Party of Canada, Natashia Bergen for the Green Party and David Vedova for the Christian Heritage Party.
