Fort Erie’s Randy Giroux will take to the track at Daytona Speedweeks

The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH), a leader in high-performance motorsports education, is gearing up for a high-octane showing at the 2024 Speedweeks in Daytona and Volusia, Florida. From February 5th to 10th, Volusia Speedway Park will see UNOH students not only compete, but also gain real-world experience thanks to unique partnerships.

Three custom-built modified cars, piloted by skilled UNOH Racers, will take to the track. These drivers include:

  • Randy Giroux (Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada) – #1 car
  • Dylan Murray (Halls, Tennessee) – #0 car
  • Brayden Weller (Palmer, Nebraska) – #01 car

Each driver will be backed by a dedicated crew of 24 UNOH Motorsports Team students, showcasing the collaborative nature of motorsports.

Beyond racing, UNOH’s “Official Educational Partner” status with Daytona International Speedway opens doors for further student involvement. Over 50 UNOH High Performance Motorsports students, members of the UNOH Race Club, will intern with 11 different ARCA teams during the ARCA Menards Series 200 race on February 17th. Additional opportunities include working on an Xfinity Team and serving as an ARCA Official. This immersive experience allows students to gain invaluable hands-on experience at a competitive level, boosting their future career prospects.

“Our students build, crew, and drive these cars,” said UNOH President, Dr. Jeffrey A. Jarvis. “The experience they gain at Volusia is invaluable to their careers.” He further emphasized the University’s global reach, welcoming students from across the world, and highlighted the importance of Daytona and Volusia as platforms for showcasing student skills and potential.

Get ready to cheer on UNOH students like Randy Giroux and the entire UNOH Racers team as they take on the legendary Speedweeks. Their combined dedication and passion promise to make waves both on and off the track, solidifying UNOH’s position as a leader in motorsports education.
