Fort Erie residents reminded to place trees curbside this week

A sign that the holidays have concluded is here.
Christmas tree collection is taking place this week on regular garbage collection days, January 6 to 10, according to Niagara Region’s website.
Artificial trees are not collected, but the large item collection service can be used to dispose of them.
Trees need to be placed at the end of the driveway no later than 7 a.m.
Residents are instructed to remove all decorations prior to collection. The Region also cautions people to not place Christmas trees on top of or inside a snow bank.
“This may cause injury to collection staff when trying to remove it,” the Region said.
Don’t place trees inside bags as it creates a problem when chipping the trees, the Region adds.
Residents can also take Christmas trees to a drop-off depot or landfill site, including the Bridge Street facility in Fort Erie.
