A 25-year-old Fort Erie man is facing drug and traffic charges after Ontario Provincial Police say a speeding stop on Highway 6 led to the discovery of suspected cocaine.
Officers with the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting speed enforcement around 10:15 p.m. on March 1 in the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands when they observed a vehicle travelling 127 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, according to an OPP news release.
Police stopped the vehicle and say the investigation that followed resulted in the driver’s arrest and the seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine.
The suspect has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, along with provincial offences including speeding, failing to surrender a driver’s licence and driving a motor vehicle without a permit.
He is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice on March 24.
