Firehouse Subs will open on Garrison Road this winter

There has been chatter on social media for a number of months that Firehouse Subs is planning to open a location in Fort Erie.

This is no longer just a rumour as Fort Erie Radio can confirm it to be true.

Signage on a window at 315 Garrison Road says the sub chain is “coming soon” to one of the units.

No specific date has been set for when customers will start being served, but EmmaJean Livingston, communications manager for Firehouse Subs, said the restaurant will open in late in 2025.

There are hundreds of Firehouse locations in the world, and 60 of them are in Ontario.

Welland, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, and Port Colborne are cities in Niagara that already have Firehouse Subs franchises.

The chain was founded in 1994 by Chris and Robin Sorenson, two firefighting brothers from Florida.

Each location has photos, a mural, and other emergency services memorabilia on its walls.

The restaurant’s décor reflects the founding family’s decades of fire and police service with gear and photos donated by local fire departments.

The Fort Erie restaurant will boast a custom, hand-painted mural by artist Joe Puskas and “will likely include the local fire department’s emblem,” said Livingston, when asked if there will be homage paid to the Fort Erie Fire Department.

The hiring process has yet to begin, she said.

The plaza, built in the last couple of years, also holds a Pita Pit, a dental screening business, as well as a Montessori daycare.

It is located between the Canadian Tire gas bar and the former factory shoe outlet, which was previously a Pizza Hut and has been unoccupied for many years.
