All Fort Erie beaches safe for swimming following latest tests

All four public beaches in Fort Erie are considered safe for swimming, according to the latest results from Niagara Region Public Health.

Bay Beach, located at 4155 Erie Road, was previously marked as unsafe for swimming due to elevated E. coli levels but passed follow-up testing conducted on June 26.

Swimming is not recommended while the water quality fails to meet guidelines.

As previously reported by Fort Erie Radio on June 22, Bay Beach was the only one of the town’s four beaches to be flagged during earlier testing. At that time, Crescent Beach, Waverly Beach, and Bernard Avenue Beach were all reported safe for swimming.

According to Niagara Region Public Health, beaches are considered unsafe when water tests detect E. coli at levels that pose a risk of illness. Possible health effects include stomach upset, skin irritation, and ear, eye, or throat infections.

Testing is conducted regularly throughout the summer at public beaches across the region. Water conditions can change quickly due to weather, wave activity, wildlife, and other factors.

The region advises swimmers to check recent test results before entering the water.
