Fort Erie teen headed to Dance World Cup in Spain

When Bella Nicoletta decided she wanted to get into acro dance, she thought it would involve trapeze and circus-style action.

But she soon found out that isn’t the case and has been training out of Niagara-based Acro Academy ever since.

She’s been working so hard at it that she recently punched a ticket to the Dance World Cup in Spain, a journey she will leave for on July 2.

At the elite competition, the 15-year-old will compete in three events: acro, hip-hop, and “showstopper,” Bella and her mother Patti explained in an interview with Fort Erie Radio on the weekend.

Bella is entering Grade 10 at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School and was a member of its dance team during the last academic year.

She admits she’s “a little nervous” heading overseas to go up against some of the world’s best, but is eager to make a name for herself on the international stage.

“It will be a really great experience,” she said.

Patti noted that spectating all the action will be a delight as well.

“We’re about to see some really amazing talent,” said Patti.

Bella recently took part in an event in London, Ont., which led to her advancing to the world cup in Spain this month.

If two of three judges felt they were good enough to move on, dancers would be told they were headed to Europe.

Bella was given an endorsement by all three judges, Patti and Bella proudly explained, also noting a scholarship assists with the trip.

A fundraising page has been set up for Bella at gofundme.com to cover the balance of her training and travel expenses.

Acro dance is a blend of traditional dance and acrobatics. Acro Academy started in Thorold but has since relocated to Niagara Falls.
