After nearly six decades of service across Niagara, including a location at 302 Gilmore Road in Fort Erie, Gale’s Gas Bars is officially changed hands.
In a statement shared online on Thursday, Jessica (Gale) Friesen, the third-generation owner of the company, confirmed the sale effective that same day.
“It is with a great deal of emotion that I would like to announce the sale of Gales Gas Bars,” Friesen wrote in a Facebook post.
“For the past 58 years my family has led this organization through good times and challenging times,” she added. “I am confident that this decision is what is right for this company, and for my family.”

Friesen, who took over leadership in 2014 following in the footsteps of Bob Gale Sr. and Bob Gale Jr., expressed gratitude to the community.
“I’d like to thank Niagara for the support that they have shown to this organization, and to the Gale family,” she wrote.
A printed notice bearing the company’s letterhead echoed Friesen’s sentiments.
“I’d like to thank the community of Niagara for their support over the many years. It has been an absolute honour and privilege to lead this organization for the last eleven years as the third generation of the Gale family,” the notice reads.
While the sale marks the end of the Gale family’s involvement in the gas and convenience retail business, Friesen emphasized their continued connection to the region.
“While this is the end of the Gale family within this organization, rest assured that this is not the end of the Gale family within Niagara,” she said. “We continue to look forward to fuelling Niagara–in other ways, and with other organizations.”
