Fort Erie joins 2025 City Nature Challenge to document local wildlife

Residents of Fort Erie are being encouraged to explore their natural surroundings and document local wildlife as part of the 2025 City Nature Challenge.

The international event, which runs from April 25 to 28, invites participants to photograph and upload images of plants, animals and fungi to the iNaturalist app.

The data collected will contribute to global biodiversity research while highlighting the town’s natural beauty, according to a news release issued by the Town of Fort Erie on Thursday.

Participants can take part from anywhere in Fort Erie, including backyards, parks, trails and the waterfront. The challenge is open to all, from experienced nature enthusiasts to casual observers looking for an outdoor activity.

To get involved, participants must download the iNaturalist app, explore their surroundings, take photos of wildlife and upload them to the platform.

When sharing photos to social media, participants are encouraged to use the following hashtags:

  • #CityNatureChallenge
  • #FortErieCNC2025
  • #ExploreFortErie
  • #FortErie
  • #FindYourFortErie
