York Region robbery and attempted murder leads to Fort Erie search

An incident involving two youths being charged with robbery and attempted murder in York Region has a connection to Fort Erie.

However, police agencies are unable to provide specific details on why an investigation into an incident in Vaughan led to a search warrant being executed at a Fort Erie home.

In January, a robbery suspect who discharged a firearm at a victim later carjacked a Honda CR-V that was idling in a driveway, threatening the owner with a firearm. As the suspect attempted to flee in the vehicle, he lost control, crashed and fled on foot.

Two suspects were identified and two search warrants were executed in Niagara Region, one in Niagara Falls and another in Fort Erie, says a February 28 news release from York Regional Police, which also says Niagara Regional Police (NRP) provided assistance.

NRP communications manager Stephanie Sabourin told Fort Erie Radio that York police are the lead agency, and that she was unable to provide details about the search warrant in Fort Erie.

York Regional Police spokesperson Lisa Moskaluk said she could not provide details about the search warrant.

Asked about what, if anything, was found at the Fort Erie home, she said in an email, “that would form part of the prosecution” and is “not something we would disclose to media/public.”

Information about where in Fort Erie the search warrant was executed is something Moskaluk also could not give.

“As this involves youths, we are unable to provide information that may identify them,” she said, adding that exact addresses of where warrants and investigations take place are something that’s not provided by her police agency unless further information is needed from the public.

Was anyone arrested at that Fort Erie home?

“We have to be careful with information we release in relation to this incident as it could identify the youths that have been arrested and are now before the court on charges,” she responded.

“As this incident involves youth, we are careful to protect their rights under the Youth Criminal Justice Act,” she said.

Information on what led investigators to a home in Fort Erie was also not provided.
