Firefighters holding a sweet fundraiser to support local community

The Central Station Volunteer Firefighters Association has a special treat for the community.

Orders are being taken until Wednesday at noon for boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts, part of a fundraiser that will support efforts undertaken throughout the year by the group of volunteer firefighters headquartered out of station no. 2.

There will be a pick-up day on February 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the fire station at 444 Central Avenue.

Association vice-president Eli Babcock told Fort Erie Radio that their group is making a bit of a resurgence from things slowing down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re trying to get back into the community a little bit more,” he said.

The funds will support events and other initiatives organized by the association, such as ones held in the past like “Movies in the Park” and a block party held on Jarvis Street on Canada Day a few years ago.

Babcock said nothing specifically has been scheduled, but used those events as examples of the work the association does.

What is brought in by the fundraiser will “go back into the community in some form,” he said.

One box is $15 and can be ordered by contacting Dan Harkins at (289) 929-0661 or mr.harknbark@gmail.com.
