Navy League Cadets hosting pancake breakfast on Sunday

The Fort Erie Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) is hoping the community is hungry this Sunday.

A pancake breakfast fundraiser is being held at the Black Creek Community Centre from 8 a.m. to noon.

Tickets are $10 for adults and six dollars for children under the age of 12.

There will also be a raffle and 50/50 draw.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will help provide additional summer events to be enjoyed by the Navy Cadets.

“Since we are a non-profit organization operated solely by volunteers, we rely mainly on donations, fundraising, and assistance from local businesses,” reads a sponsorship request from local president Murray Gault.

The organization involves girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 12, who come from many different backgrounds, he wrote.

“The Navy League Cadet program is committed to developing our youth through moral guidance and encouragement. They learn about respect, self discipline, and good citizenship,” said Gault.

Prior to their annual inspection in 2019, the group was known as NLCC Black Creek, which was founded in 1993. The name change was meant to honour the River-class Frigate, HMCS Fort Erie, which served in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII, says the group’s website.
