Library board chair hopeful CEO replacement will be found shortly

Fort Erie Public Library (FEPL) has been without a full-time chief executive officer for about four months, but the position will be filled as soon as the right person to take it on is found.
That’s according to library board chair Larry Graber, who told Fort Erie Radio in an interview on Wednesday that “several” candidates have been reviewed, and a meeting with one of them is scheduled for later this week.
“Out of all of those, we hope to make a decision shortly,” said Graber.

In June, Schelley Hiebert stepped down from the position and Maria Brigantino has been filling in on an interim basis since then.
Brigantino was business manager for FEPL for 25 years before she retired and then came back to serve as a member of the library board.
She seemed like the best fit to take over as CEO temporarily, said Graber.
“We figured she was the best choice, somebody who knows the staff and has worked with them over the years,” said Graber.
Graber said Brigantino has been doing an excellent job, but is hopeful a full-time replacement is given a contract soon.
“I’d like to have filled it yesterday, but these things take time,” he said.
Council does not need to approve the board’s decision.
