Fort Erie man wins $100,000 playing Encore

A Fort Erie man is settling for $100,000 after initially believing he had won $1 million.

Todd Brown, who works in the local horse racing industry, won the amount playing Encore on July 19.

“I was out for a walk with my dog when I decided to head over to the store to check my tickets,” said Brown in a recent Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation news release.

When Brown scanned his ticket, he thought he had won a free play and $1 million, and started to cry, said the OLG release.

“I then brought my ticket to the clerk, and he validated it, prompting a call from OLG. When I realized the prize was $100,000, I started crying even more,” Brown also said in the release.

He plans to save some of the windfall, pay bills and donate to charities serving animals.

The ticket was purchased at the Avondale located at 1201 Garrison Road.
