International food market on Garrison Road has ‘a little bit of everything’

After Ericka Campuzano moved to Fort Erie three years ago from Toronto, she often found herself having to drive to St. Catharines or Niagara Falls to buy products for ethnic cooking she does at home.

That is part of the reason she has started Mi Casa 905, an international food mini-mart on Garrison Road.

The store opened about two weeks ago but an official grand opening will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m.

“We definitely don’t have anything international here in Fort Erie,” she said in an interview with Fort Erie Radio on Monday.

She also said that Fort Erie has always been a multicultural town, one that welcomes people from all over the world, and that more newcomers are beginning to call the border town home.

“It’s growing quickly,” said Campuzano, who operated a small Caribbean restaurant in Toronto before relocating to Fort Erie.

Campuzano is a native of Ecuador and offers Latin, Asian, African, and Indian foods at her market, which is located at 516 Garrison Road, Unit 4.

She also serves hot “finger foods,” Jamaican patties, empanadas, and a variety of sausages.

“I’m trying to bring a little bit of everything,” she said, noting there will be samples on hand for invited guests on Friday.

Mi Casa 905 is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
