Ridgeway food truck partnering with local dog rescue for adoption event

A local food truck is using its location as an opportunity to see dogs find their forever homes.

Frydaze Chip Shack in downtown Ridgeway will host an event on September 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., partnering with Tails of the North, a Fort Erie-based dog rescue organization who also set up at the Ridge Road food spot last weekend for a small event that saw a couple of canines up for adoption.

Owners of the food shack Donna and Dale Baer used to operate a Pet Valu in St. Catharines and are no strangers to providing a better life for animals.

“We have a lot of knowledge,” Donna told Fort Erie radio in an interview Monday.

The event being held on a Saturday is ideal, said Donna, noting how busy downtown Ridgeway gets in the summer, especially when the popular farmers market is running, which creates plenty of foot traffic.

“It’s quite advantageous for them to come here,” said Donna, adding the food truck has held other animal-related events in the past.

Tails of the North is a foster-based, registered charitable organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and finding homes for them, says the organization’s website.

Baer said she was unaware of how many dogs will be on hand at the event later this month.

The group’s website is showing two dogs currently up for adoption; Sienna, a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd-Lab mix, as well as Miley, a six-month-old Mastiff mix.
