‘A very fun night’: Fort Erie Legion hosting disco party on September 7

It’s time to bust out the old bell bottoms and head down to the Legion.

On September 7, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 71 (130 Garrison Rd.) will be hosting a disco party from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be free pizza, prizes for costumes, games and a 50/50 draw.

Sharon Senier, Branch 71’s first vice-president and chair of the ways and means committee, said the annual event is usually “a very fun night,” one that brings out an older crowd that feels comfortable going to the local Legion branch.

“They’re not the crowd that usually goes to a bar,” she said.

Branch 71 has also held 50s and 60s nights, a Halloween bash, as well as a beach party in previous years.

These are ways to “bring in different ideas to get people out,” she said.

The event will hold about 110 people. Advance tickets are five dollars and tickets at the door can be purchased for $10. Senier said the disco part usually sells out each year and encourages people to dress in their best disco garments.

Branch 71 currently has 412 members, added Senier, and monthly 50/50 draws are held to benefit various local charities.
