Tornado strikes Fort Erie, causes significant property damage

Shortly before noon on Monday, what is believed to be a small tornado touched down in Fort Erie, leaving a trail of debris and destruction, before continuing into Buffalo.

According to the X/Twitter account Instant Weather Ontario, radar estimates indicate that wind speeds reached 140 km/h. Multiple residents reported instances of property damage on Facebook, including trees, roofs, barns, and vehicles.

Several users posted photos of a large travel trailer overturned in the Walmart (750 Garrison Rd.) parking lot.

Parts of Fort Erie, including Stevensville, are currently experiencing power outages. According to a post on X/Twitter at 12:23 p.m., Canadian Niagara Power is investigating “multiple outages” with no estimated time for restoration currently available.

Fort Erie Radio is not aware of any injuries or bodily harm resulting from the tornado at this time.

Residents are advised to seek shelter as flying debris from tornados and high winds can be fatal.
