Three shows take the stage at Sessions on the River this week

Sessions on the River has three nights booked this week, including a live music video shoot by award-winning Niagara Falls songwriter Evan Rotella.

The Trip will be rehearsing in the studio Tuesday at 6 p.m. The local Tragically Hip tribute band is fronted by Fort Erie’s John Genet, who sings the parts made famous by the late Gord Downie. The band has a catalogue of 60 to 75 Hip songs and has played shows across southern Ontario.

On Thursday at 6 p.m., Sessions will screen Canada’s World Cup match against Qatar. It is Canada’s second game of the 2026 tournament. Canada opened with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12, the country’s first ever point at a World Cup.

Rotella will be filming a live music video at Sessions on Saturday at 8 p.m. The 21-year-old Niagara Falls artist won the 2025 Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award for his song ‘Maryanne,’ presented at the Ontario Folk Music Awards in Ottawa last October.

His latest single, ‘Abandon All Hope,’ is out now ahead of an album by the same name expected to be released this fall. He wrote it with Colin and John-Angus MacDonald of The Trews.

Alcohol will be served at the shows. Tickets for Saturday cost $10, either at danima.ca or at the door.

The recording studio and music venue at 133 Niagara Boulevard sits in the old Parkway Movie Theatre, right along the Niagara River.
