Mayor Wayne Redekop said in a social media post the flags will remain at half-mast until Sisler’s funeral on Thursday, in recognition of his life and contributions to the community.

Sisler died April at the age of 110. A Second World War veteran and former customs officer at the Peace Bridge, he was widely known in Fort Erie for his decades of service and involvement with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 71.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, with a funeral service to follow Thursday.
