Pellet gun prompts hour-long closure on Crescent Road

A weapons call on Sunday morning shut down part of Crescent Road near Hollywood Street for about an hour, but Niagara police later found an adult male with a pellet gun in his yard.

The closure began after officers received a report at about 10:15 a.m. of a male with a weapon in a residential yard. Police blocked Crescent Road between Hollywood and Phillips streets while officers checked the call, a response that can follow any report of a firearm or possible firearm in a residential area.

The investigation found that nothing criminal had taken place, according to a Niagara Regional Police Service media release issued Sunday.

No arrests were made. No charges were laid.

Police also reported there had been no risk to public safety.

The road has since reopened. Niagara police thanked residents for their patience while the call was resolved.
