Fort Erie fire crews were called early on Tuesday to Amalfi’s Trattoria in Crystal Beach, where they spent the day working to extinguish a stubborn blaze.
Fire chief Mark Schmitt told Fort Erie Radio that the Erie Road building is “a complete loss,” with the fire destroying the restaurant beyond repair.
No injuries were reported.

Flames were seen coming through the roof of the restaurant in a busy stretch of Crystal Beach, where Erie Road serves local traffic as the community’s main commercial strip.
Fort Erie firefighters were called to the area around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, which was blocked off for residents’ safety.

An excavator was seen ripping more of the roof off the restaurant, and firefighters climbed on the roof to suppress the fire inside.
Schmitt confirmed Tuesday evening that the fire is fully out, but noted an investigation into the cause will continue “for a little bit.”
