Douglas Memorial urgent care to close early Saturday

The Douglas Memorial urgent care centre in Fort Erie will close early on December 27, as Niagara Health continues to deal with ongoing physician staffing challenges.
According to an update posted by Niagara Health on its website, the Fort Erie urgent care centre will close at 4 p.m. on Saturday instead of its usual 8 p.m. closing time. The site is scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Niagara Health said in the update that the temporary change is due to continued difficulty finding enough physicians to cover all urgent care shifts, despite efforts that include outreach to local doctors and offering additional incentives.
Residents are being urged to check Niagara Health’s website before visiting an urgent care centre to confirm hours of operation.
A similar early closure is planned at the Port Colborne urgent care centre, which will close at 4 p.m. on Sunday, reopening at 10 a.m. the following day.
The latest reduction in hours adds to ongoing concerns in Fort Erie, where residents have already faced multiple temporary closures and reduced schedules at Douglas Memorial this year.
