Dollarama coming to Ridgeway Centre in second construction phase

Construction has begun on the second phase of Ridgeway Centre with work now underway on a Dollarama.

“Dollarama is starting construction and we’re prepping for some other tenants to come in,” said Anthony Annunziata, majority owner with business partner David Kompson.

The commercial project at Gorham and Dominion roads was first envisioned more than 15 years ago as a way to attract national chains without competing with Ridgeway’s downtown boutiques.

Annunziata told Fort Erie Radio the centre was designed to complement the heritage area by offering tenants such as McDonald’s, the LCBO and future large-scale retailers.

He added that a supermarket remains part of the plan but hinges on creating a new entrance from Gorham Road.

“The grocery wants centre access, and that doesn’t exist because there’s an EMS station in the middle,” Annunziata said in an interview.

Since the adjacent Niagara EMS station cannot be removed or relocated, the developers must find a way to design an entrance that allows traffic into the plaza without interfering with emergency services.

“Nobody wants to lose the EMS and no one wants to relocate the EMS,” said Annunziata. “We’re trying to do our best to work around that and seek everybody’s cooperation.”

Phase two is expected to wrap up in early 2026 with Dollarama’s opening targeted for spring and no further road closures are expected. Additional tenant announcements are expected within the next few months.

$3 million has already been invested in underground infrastructure, according to the site owners, who added they’ve also contributed more than $1 million in development fees to Fort Erie and Niagara Region public services.
