Meteors blank Bombers in season opener

The Fort Erie Meteors began the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League season with a statement Saturday night, shutting out the Caledon Bombers 6‑0 at the Leisureplex.

Seventeen‑year‑old winger Danny Adamo opened the scoring 38 seconds into the first period when he converted a pass from Sam Tonelli and Keaton Masterson.

Adamo told BP Sports Niagara after the game he was eager to start the season and felt the club was “looking pretty well right now” with strong goaltending and confidence after training camp.

The Meteors widened the lead in the second period.

Rookie Reece Matier scored his first junior goal at 3:51, captain Cam Thorpe made it 3‑0 at 6:01 and Hunter Coley scored on a power play at 14:43.

Tonelli added a goal at 8:37 of the third period and Coley struck again at 14:47.

Tonelli led all scorers with a goal and four assists, while Adamo and Thorpe each collected two points.
